Simplicity of textures, shapes and lines

The late french painter, Eugéne Delacroix, was quoted to say "A taste for simplicity cannot endure for long". Maybe, but perhaps he hadn't come across the quote of one of the most famous renaissance artist Leonardo da Vinci, who once said "simplicity is the ultimate sophistication' and maybe led to a German renaissance painter, Albrecht Durer, to discover "As I grew older, I realised it was much better to insist on the genuine forms of nature, for simplicity is the greatest adornment of art."

I think we are simply destined to build more complex, esoteric, lives around us that eventually lead us to a point where we need to find solace in simplicity.

This week and after uni exams and an insurmountable source of work I thought it would be interesting to spend a little more time focusing on the most simple and often ignored images of our daily lives. A collection of shapes and textures found all over our homes. But with a slight Photoshop touch up.

Sydney City & Harbour Sunset

5.30pm today and I jumped on the scooter to get the last few glimpses of light. My usual lap around the east takes me from Bellevue Hill around to Watson's Bay and then through the top of the South Head, Dover Heights. The Dudley reserve has some amazing sights on a nice day and managed to get a few last glimpses of the amazing weather we had to close off the long weekend in Sydney.

Sydney in all her glory, flanked by the City and Harbour bridge and wrapped in a diminishing glow. The perfect end to a long weekend.

It's hard not to be biased with sights like this.

Little People

If you have a little time in your day, this is a great photo-blog to visit.

Really interesting images and clever use of perspective and scale. The blog features cityscapes and brings them to life by mixing in some miniature people in contrasting situations to create such a great story from an otherwise typically cold and gritty street view.

I really like idea of reversing the perspective through the images. So often we are used to zooming into detail and becoming aware of the smallest part of a larger image. This blog and the images show the story from the miniaturisation, as the focal point in the first frame and slowly rendering a larger viewpoint and giving the story within them a slight feeling of departure.

Great work by Slinkachu, one of my favourite photographic blogs.
